UTAH
Life caught up with us. Almost like we got focused on planning something big. The blog fell off on the priority list.
It's now been almost 3 months since we first arrived in Utah so this blog will be a lot less text and a lot more photos.
But we LOVED Utah!!!
We left Vegas and headed to St. George.
Still plagued with some rain (sandstone....) we spent the first day or two exploring on mountain bikes.
We were instantly blown away with the beauty of St. George.
We try to always honor Megan's mountain biking tradition of beer and sour gummies.
Our backyard for the night.
There was a Cracker Barrell in town. CB is known for letting RVs sleep overnight and we had said we need to sleep there at least once and go in for breakfast and in St. George we finally did.
One of St. George's main climbing attraction is Moe's Bouldering Area.
We were desperate to climb after all this rain, and Moe's did not disappoint!
Incredibly beautiful and the boulder's were amazing!
Here are some artistic shots by Megan.
And some selfies/pics of us.
And now the good stuff... some climbing pics
I could not get this stupid V5... Device Ignitor Middle
The Spider Drum boulder was a great place for a few good problems and great photos.
When you see a chalked up rail like this... you have to try it! Even inspired me to put on my left climbing shoe!
Whiskey Rail V4. Among a few other amazing lines on this boulder.
Meggie working those overhung moves!
I will have to come back and try to finish this one out!
Shot Hole V6
Meggie has this thing where all the skin on her fingers fall off.
We had an amazing time mountain biking at the New Bearclaw Poppy Navajo trails.
The trails were flowy and had long downhill sections! We only captured one photo but hoping to return for a few more rides in the future!
I could have stayed there longer, but new adventures awaits!
Saying good bye was hard, especially when we had views like this where we were sleeping.
Everyday life in the van.
Next we were off to Moab.
Still dealing with the rain.... I guess it's great for nature... but not so good for climbing.
We started off just exploring Arches National Park.
We were happily surprised!
Arches NP supplies some new unique views that we hadn't seen before!
Look at that rock balancing!
Check it out... I have this new feature on my phone where you can click on people in the background, and they just disappear!
Before
After!
Arches, arches, arches!
Delicate arch
Still raining.... so we did some more mountain biking.
The trails were unique in that a lot of it is on smooth rock.
We did decide though that with hard tails, even smooth rock is too bumpy, we miss the dirt trails of the PNW and the north east.
This is how Megan feels about biking uphill.
Finally time for some climbing! We started big and took on a tower right away!
That skinny top left of the notch was our goal!
Lonely Vigil (5.10) on Lighthouse Tower.
I struggled with some of the climbing, but what an amazing view it was!
Well deserved rest.
More rain.... so more hiking.
Canyonland NP.
Sunset yoga, getting ready for some bouldering tomorrow.
It worked because Megan bagged her first V5!
Block Party!
Megan getting some cool shots.
Next up was Wall St! A fun crag where you can park next to the climbs!
More rain... so more hiking and biking!
Dead Horse Point State Park.
After that it was time for Indian Creek!!!!!!!
But... instead of rain.. we got snow.
Shilpa joined us for our time in Indian Creek!
We found a great spot to set up camp.
Post climbing crossword time!
The climbing in Indian Creek was a little bit of a learning curve, the straight cracks required some new thoughts about gear and rope management! Basically every single climb we did was incredible! Indian Creek lived up to the hype. It will be a return destination.
Megan getting up Binou's crack (5.8+)
Where did her left leg go?
Getting deep in "Elephant Man" 10-.
Finally time for super crack!
What an experience!
Nice racks
Look at that wavy formation!
My best onsight, Scarface 5.11a/b
Meggie cruising up Italian combo 5.9+ without breaking a sweat.
After Indian Creek it was time to head to the Ranch in Doss Tx.
On our way we first made a pit stop in Albuquerque to see Megan's great aunt and uncle, Joan and Lou. Had a great evening with them.
Second pit stop was Megan's family in Amarillo.
Ruby is ready to go on the road with us!
Intense game of hangman!
Yoga time!
Megan and Asher
We did a trip to Palo Duro Canyon.
Best photo I got was these two, Megan and Grayson. (Megan's brothers baby)
Yes, he's as big as he looks. Probably about 5months old in these photos.
We look back very fondly on our time in Utah! St. George was incredible and will be a common destination if we live in Vegas, and Moab was top 5 places for sure, hoping to spend lots of time in the future there as well.
We made it to the Ranch the next day and then it was time to plan our Wedding Celebration!

So glad to see more pictures- amazing, poetic, stunning, fun, serious, funny, dramatic, indescribable, candid, beautiful, interesting, inspiring........
ReplyDeleteThe landscapes in Arches and Cayonlands look otherwordly. I want to go see them. The rocks in Canyonlands look about as high as the ones in Greece that I sent you pictures of.
